Did you buy a bigger flat panel monitor?
How to Save money on Flat Panel monitors
The best way to save money on a flat panel monitor is to be clear about which features you don't need!
Alternatively, instead of paying fifty, sixty, eighty dollars or more for features (speakers, USB ports, digital card readers, etc.) that you won't use you could put that saved money into buying a wider screen - seeing as we use a monitor all the time! Consider the list below and be realistic about the features that you won't use.
USB Ports - How many USB Ports can a person have? How many do you need? If you have an older computer then maybe you'd like a couple more USB ports before buying a new PC. If you have a newer PC already then you probably don't need any additional USB ports on your new flat panel monitor.
Digital Camera - I like the idea of a digital camera built into an LCD monitor. It's a better "all-in-one" solution than having yet more wires and devices hanging off your desk! However the reality is that I'd rather spend the $40 or $50 on a wider screen monitor every time.
15-in-1 Digital Card Reader - Now that I have a 15-in-one card reader in my new PC and, another 15-in-1 in my OptiPhotoMax printer and, another 15-in-1 digital card reader in my monitor, does that mean I can read 45 different types of digital media cards?!?! Regardless, A nice idea for those that fiddle faddle around with digital media cards but, not at the top of most people's flat panel LCD monitor lists!
Adjustable Stand - Here's a feature that is a BIG decision! Intentionally buying a flat panel computer screen without the adjustable - as opposed to unadjustable - stand can easily put another inch or more onto your wide screen purchasing power!. Unfortunately the corollary is also often the case; people buy monitors without realizing that it doesn't have the - expected - adjustable stand! Another reason not to worry about an adjustable stand would be if you wanted to desk mount or wall mount your flat panel.
Speakers - Well, if you don't have a pair of Sennheiser wireless headphones then maybe speakers embedded or attached to a monitor is the next best solution? Seriously tho'.....
At the end of the day, not purchasing or, paying additional money for, features that aren't required can add up to a considerable amount of money - and take up spatial depth &/or desk space. Consider the trade-off against a 21" "fully loaded" flat panel LCD monitor vs. a 23" or 24" Widescreen Flat Panel without the 5 items mentioned above!
So, now you know how to save yourself some money and buy yourself a wider screen flat monitor at the same time!
